Level: Intermediate—must be able to center 5 lbs of clay

Workshop Description
If you are hooked on throwing on the wheel, and REALLY want to learn how to throw BIG and improve your skills to the next level, then this workshop is for you! The Instructor, Sona Knox has been creating vessels on the wheel since 1995, and has been teaching the pottery wheel since 2001. She will demonstrate various techniques that will improve the height, width and shape of your larger pots than you have ever thrown. Clay students need to be able to successfully center, pull the walls and shape 3 pounds of clay on the pottery wheel.

About the Instructor
Sona Knox is a potter and a painter, who established McKinney Art Housem (arthousetx.com) in a beautiful 100 year old house, in downtown McKinney Texas in 2005. Her school started with 3 clay students, and grew to 65 clay students, 150 painting and drawing students, and 14 teachers. She has won many awards and has won many awards and has successfully sold her work in various shows in Lake Tahoe area and North Texas. Her passion has always been teaching the pottery wheel…from the classroom, to the street at art festivals. Her favorite art center is Mendocino Art Center and that’s a fact!
Materials List
Various pottery tools including, wires, needle tool, wooden stick, large wooden, rubber, metal ribs, large and small loop tools, sponges, calipers, journal and pencil, towel.
Bring 50 lbs. of your favorite clay and Ms. Knox will show you how to make it stronger to throw. If students are not able to bring their own clay, they may purchase clay from the MAC for $25 per 25 pound bag of clay.
Bring boxes and foam/ paper to transport pieces home.
For lunch, drinks and group salad/soup will be provided. Bring your favorite dish or snacks for potluck.
