It all began with a friendship between two artists on each side of the Pacific Ocean.
In 1980, Bill Zacha and Toshi Yoshida established the sister city relationship between Mendocino and Miasa, Japan. The Mendocino Sister Cities Association (MSCA) joined the national organization, Sister Cities International in 1992. Since then, the non-profit organization MSCA has been committed to offering live-changing experiences through the Student Exchange Program, inspiring innovative ideas and beauty through the Artist Exchange Program, and promoting cultural understanding by introducing Japanese culture to our communities.
