CLASS DESCRIPTION

The mission of this class is to take the fear and stifling preciousness out of the process and have fun, be curious, and build confidence.

We will concentrate less on technique and more on observation and engaging your senses. Over the course of four weeks, we will let go and stay fresh and aware of our own history of previous solutions and what we have collected in our memory of art to which we have been exposed.

Whatever your art project or artistic direction, it is never a bad idea to be able to start with a workable drawing. In my work in printmaking, it’s essential. Together we will focus on contour, gesture, weight, and other methods that will help you find your zone so you can draw whatever you see.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

NICHOLAS COLLINS studied art history and sculpture at UCSB and trained in etching and relief printmaking at KALA in Berkeley, where he was an artist in residence for two years. He has shown his work in galleries in the Bay Area, Sonoma and Mendocino counties. For 8 years Nicholas has been teaching printmaking and drawing workshops, both in-person and on-line at the Mendocino Art Center and Pacific Art League in Palo Alto.
