  • Weekend workshops, that provide skill building and deeper learning

  • Weeklong workshops, that cultivate a deep experience for engaged artists

  • Online classes and workshops

Support MAC's Mission:

By offering to teach a class, you will be directly contributing to MAC's mission of "Fostering Creativity, Enrichment, and Community Wellness through the Arts." This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community, support the arts, and share your passion and skills.

Join Us:

If you're excited to contribute to a thriving creative community and help others discover the joy of art, we'd love to hear from you. Please reach out to programs@mendocinoartcenter.org to request a class proposal form and share your ideas for making art accessible to all.

We begin with almost random play, then develop forms, focusing on design and structure. Adding and subtracting in the design process is crucial. The final stages often include surprises. For continuing painters and adventurous beginners who want to enrich their personal practice.

Community Advisory Council Update

Mendocino Art Center quarterly community advisory council meeting showing several members speaking

In our continuous journey to nurture creativity and community engagement, Mendocino Art Center held its quarterly Community Advisory Council (CAC) meeting this February, charting an exciting course for 2024. The gathering was a vibrant forum, bringing together community leaders in the arts to exchange ideas, feedback, and visions for the future of MAC.

Embracing New Directions: The CAC delved into discussions about MAC's new programming initiatives, aimed at enriching our artistic offerings and ensuring the continued success of our Artist in Residence (AIRs) program. These conversations underscore our commitment to fostering an environment where creativity can flourish.

Inclusivity and Collaboration: A key focus of the meeting was our effort to make the MAC campus more inclusive by hosting a wider array of events and groups. The committee explored opportunities for expanding collaborations with non-profits like Flockworks in Fort Bragg, with tribal groups, other arts organizations, and non-profits in the area, to create a more interconnected arts community.

Youth Engagement: Recognizing the importance of engaging the next generation, we discussed expanding our program offerings for youth, with a particular emphasis on reaching underserved communities. These initiatives are designed to provide young people with access to artistic experiences and education.

Leadership Transition: The search for a new Executive Director for MAC is underway, with continuing interviews of applicants. This transition is seen as a pivotal moment for MAC, setting the stage for a vibrant and successful year ahead.

A Collaborative Future: The CAC meeting was a testament to the power of community and collaboration. By working together, we aim to create workshops, events, and gallery exhibits that reflect the collective creativity and diversity of our community.

The February CAC meeting was a discussion and a declaration of our shared commitment to ensuring that MAC remains a beacon of creativity, inclusivity, and collaboration. As we move forward, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and are grateful for the invaluable insights and contributions of our community leaders.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress and upcoming events that embody the spirit of our discussions. Together, we are crafting a future for Mendocino Art Center that is as vibrant and dynamic as the community we serve.

FEARLESS, The Adventurous Heart of Dorr Bothwell

Mendocino Art Center FEARLESS, The Adventurous Heart of Dorr Bothwell featuring artwork

Dorr Bothwell, artist, designer, educator, and world traveler, was courageous at heart. Unapologetic in prioritizing her artwork, unwavering in her commitment and fidelity to that purpose, Bothwell allowed herself full person-hood during an era when women had no vote, literally in politics and figuratively at home. She viewed her career as a true vocation, a calling, and placed it above her own desire for traditional relationships, comfort or safety.

The NEW Online Exhibition allows visitors to explore Dorr Bothwell's work and purchase her original art! Use the link below to visit the online gallery and share it with friends : )
