CLASS DESCRIPTION

Craig Black will take participants out onto the headlands and beaches around Mendocino and gather interesting items that may have washed up. For example: driftwood, shells, broken ceramic, metals, and any man made objects that the students find inspiring. We will bring them back to the sculpture studio and use screws, rivets, hot glue and polymer epoxies, to assemble the components with a focus on flow, balance, movement, and sculptural aesthetics to transform the debris into works of art. This course is open to all skill levels.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR — Craig Black

I am an instructor and a professional in the arts who is available to listen and be sensitive to each student’s diverse needs and talents. My intuition and strong communication skills encourage questioning and personal response. In addition, my personal ability to motivate and inspire students transcends learning boundaries. These skills are reflected in my lectures, demonstrations, and critiques. My methods and personal flair recognize and focus the wide-ranging skills and talents of others, and generate an atmosphere of inspiration within the class.
