GRACE POTTER, ceramics

My work is an examination of the delicate balance held within an ecosystem and the many parts necessary to the whole. I am captivated by the vast complexity, diversity and essential interconnection within natural systems. Motivated by this sense of wonder, I carefully inspect details in my environment, such as a cicada wing or mushroom mycelia, and meticulously slip-trail, coil build and carve their forms in clay. In this way, I work to physically manifest complex visual and textural experiences through the use of pattern and multiples. The resulting works become an aggregate of delicate actions requiring an acute awareness of each piece’s fragility, every vital connection, and its importance as part of something greater.
